It has a wall with 1565 meters of perimeter where you can walk around looking at the fertile várzea where the hill of the castle rises, the houses lying in white and bent to stripes that have become one of the most photographed houses in Portugal.
It has a number of Baroque churches, a rich heritage that crosses centuries and architectural genres and rich tile panels. And it has bookstores – 11 bookstores that occupied churches, markets and galleries – it has also a cultural and artistic programming that extends through the 12 months of the year and that includes, among others, the International Festival of Literature of Obidos and the Opera Festival. And then there’s one of the most famous medieval fairs in the country and a handful of fabulous beaches nearby!
This adds up to a handful of restaurants and when the sun gives way to the moon the party hasn’t finished. Between a “ginjinha” at the “Petrarum”, a “bullfighter” (house drink) at the “Toupeiro”, a good wine at the “Troca Tintos” or a Gin at the sophisticated “The Literary Gin Bar” – options are not lacking to live Óbidos at night.
